The Burberry Trench.

Last week in Production Process we had to look at a brand and the difference between store and runway pieces. I chose Burberry since the Christopher Bailey A/W 2010 show was fresh, crisp and just what the brand needed in order to keep the image clean and reconnect with the heritage of Thomas Burberry without overlicencing that wellknown pattern we've seen everywhere the last decades.

It was also interesting to visit the Barcelona store and see if spanish customers will stay faithful to the brand, even though Burberry closed down the Spanish Operations (collections exclusively designed for the spanish market) in january this year, leaving about 300 people without jobs.

The trench has always been a symbol of Burberry, and with the A/W 2010 collection it was true fashion engineering that brought that piece of clothing back on the map as a trendsetter. Draped shoulders and slim, belted waists made it modern, but maybe most important it became clear that the trench can be worn by all: old, young, man, woman, classy, crazy; you name it.

In line with the collection, Burberry has created a campaign site for the trench to honour it as the timeless garment it is. Photos have been taken by well known style blogger Scott Schuman (The Sartorialist) and links are provided with the story of the trench and online shops.
